Powerball player missed $483M prize — but still won big in NC. Where was ticket sold?
A Powerball player just missed a $483 million jackpot — but is still in for a windfall in North Carolina.
The player bought a ticket that matched all but one number picked in the March 26 drawing, making it worth $50,000, results show.
The winning numbers: white balls 5-20-29-39-53, with red Powerball 6.
The player’s ticket matched four white balls and the red ball to win big. It was sold at a Harris Teeter grocery store on Park Road in Charlotte, the N.C. Education Lottery wrote on its website and in an email to McClatchy News.
The $2 ticket was one number from scoring a jackpot win. Nationwide, no one hit the jackpot, which stood at an estimated $483 million the night of the drawing, according to the Powerball website.
Lottery officials shared news of the $50,000 win early March 27, before the lucky ticket holder would have been able to cash in on their prize at a claims center. In North Carolina, Powerball winners have about six months to come forward, rules show.
