Powerball players scored four big prizes — making for a lucky night in North Carolina.

The players bought tickets that matched all but one number picked in the May 17 drawing, making them worth $50,000. Since one of the players spent an extra dollar on the Power Play option, their prize rose to $100,000, results show.

The winning numbers: white balls 7-34-40-42-52, with red Powerball 15.

The players have a lot to celebrate after each of their tickets matched four white balls and the red ball. Here’s where the N.C. Education Lottery said the lucky tickets were sold:

  • $50,000 ticket sold to an online player in Lexington
  • $50,000 ticket sold to an online player in Mooresville
  • $50,000 ticket sold at Country Mart in Siler City
  • $100,000 ticket sold at a Shell gas station in Lexington

Lottery officials told McClatchy News about the wins via email early May 19, before the lucky ticket holders would have been able to cash in at the lottery’s claims centers. The winners have about six months to come forward, rules show.

In North Carolina, Powerball tickets start at $2. While this weekend’s winners are in for big windfalls, their tickets were one number from scoring the jackpot prize. No one hit the jackpot, which stood at an estimated $125 million the night of the drawing, according to the N.C. Education Lottery and Powerball websites.
