‘Inseparable’ 15-year-old cats need a new home to ‘live out their golden years’
Two 15-year-old cats are “inseparable” — and they need a home to “live out their golden years.”
“Their owner had to move to an assisted living facility,” Malinda Massey, marketing manager for a North Carolina animal shelter, told McClatchy News via email. “It’s truly a sad situation — they’ve been together their whole lives! They are both incredibly sweet cats that deserve a loving home.”
As of Aug. 5, senior cats Shelby and Yoda have spent more than one month waiting for a second chance. The Forsyth Humane Society is requiring that the two siblings be adopted together.
“These cats should go to the same home,” Massey wrote. “Because of their age and length of time they’ve been a bonded pair, it would be a detriment to their health to separate them for adoption.”
Shelby and Yoda are littermates who have been around each other for more than a decade. While Shelby loves sleeping near people, Yoda likes to keep his sister’s fur tidy, the Winston-Salem shelter wrote in a Facebook post.
“They are constantly near each other, napping or grooming. They get along great and aren’t afraid to tell each other if they need their space politely,” the humane society wrote, adding that the two “can be demanding about the pets they want.”
As of Aug. 5, the both cats were still up for adoption. Details about the shelter’s adoption process can be found at forsythhumane.org.
“We believe senior animals deserve compassion, cuddles, and love just as much as our highly adoptable kittens and young cats,” the shelter wrote in an online adoption profile. “We want their new family to spoil them with frequent neck scratches, yummy treats and cozy beds by the best window for bird watching.”
