A mother is accused of hitting and strangling her son, who North Carolina authorities say was located with his neighbor.

When Aberdeen officers arrived to a home Sept. 25 for a report of child abuse, they found the boy “visibly upset,” according to a Sept. 29 news release.

He told officers his mom “had assaulted him by hitting him in the head multiple times and strangling him,” police said.

Investigators said the boy had physical injuries, and surveillance footage captured the alleged assault.

According to a warrant obtained by WNCN, the mom “grabbed the victim with both hands around his throat and held him down in (a) chair.”

McClatchy News is not naming the woman to protect the identity of her child.

The 29-year-old mother was given a felony strangulation charge and misdemeanor charges of child abuse and assault on a child under 12, according to police.

She was initially jailed on no bond, police said, but it was changed to $5,000 and she was released from custody Sept. 26, WNCN reported.

Aberdeen is about a 95-mile drive east from Charlotte.
