‘Sneaky’ dog arrived at shelter after she kept escaping. Then came ‘perfect fit’
A mischievous dog arrived at a shelter after she kept escaping — then came good news.
“She had a habit of roaming the neighborhood and stirring up a little canine chaos with the local dogs,” Danielle Deschamps, communications coordinator for a North Carolina animal shelter, told McClatchy News in an Oct. 10 email. “Her previous owners, unable to keep her safely contained, made the difficult decision to surrender her to us.”
Marbles the dog landed at the Watauga Humane Society in the mountain town of Boone, a roughly 85-mile drive west from Winston-Salem. But it didn’t take long for the beloved escape artist to be adopted.
“She was such a charming and lovable pup, we weren’t surprised she got scooped up so quickly,” Deschamps wrote.
Marbles got a fresh start after she gained a reputation near her previous family’s home. She became known for “turning neighborhood escapism into an extreme sport.”
“Sneaky? Oh, absolutely,” the shelter wrote in a Facebook post. “She’s that teenage troublemaker who charms the teacher and still ends up in detention anyway. Animal Control knows her by name. She’s been written up more times than your high school crush. Which is why Miss Marbles is now officially grounded for life: fenced yard required, leash always in public, no exceptions.”
As the “adventurous” dog waited for a home, she showed off her playful side before settling in for naps. The shelter believes she didn’t have a lot of structure in her past but felt she was eager to learn.
“Don’t let her street cred fool you, under that wild-child streak is a total sweetheart,” the shelter wrote.
Then, one day after the humane society shared Marbles’ story on Facebook, she was adopted. Shelter workers celebrated the heartwarming update.
“We focus on matching dogs with adopters based on personality, temperament, and lifestyle,” Deschamps wrote. “(Marbles’) new family clearly felt the connection, and we’re thrilled she found her perfect fit so fast.”
