Intruder brings knife to a gunfight, gets taken prisoner by homeowner, NC cops say
A burglary involving a knife-wielding man changed course dramatically when the homeowner pulled a gun and took the suspect prisoner, according to investigators in North Carolina.
It happened around 11 p.m. Sunday, March 1, in Aberdeen, and ended with a 21-year-old suspect facing multiple felony charges, Aberdeen police said in a March 4 news release.
“The victim, who was in his home with his spouse at the time, advised that a male had entered his screened-in porch trying to make entry into his home,” police said. “The victim advised the male had a knife in his possession.”
When police arrived, they found the homeowner on the porch, holding the suspect “at gunpoint,” officials said.
Investigators did not report either man being injured during the confrontation.
Tylee Keyshaun Cannady of Aberdeen was arrested at the scene, and a knife was recovered, police say.
He has been charged with felony first degree burglary, felony breaking and entering with intent to terrorize, and misdemeanor first degree trespass, police said.
Court documents show the suspect lives about a mile south of the crime scene.
Aberdeen is about a 70-mile drive southwest from downtown Raleigh.
