Pennsylvania man buys winning lottery ticket while at North Carolina gas station
A Pennsylvania man got one heck of a souvenir when he bought a winning lottery ticket while visiting North Carolina.
Stanley Konat won $410,432 off a Cash 5 ticket that cost just $1, the N.C. Education Lottery said in a March 10 news release.
“Konat, in town visiting his daughter, bought his lucky Quick Pick ticket for the Jan. 5 drawing from Pik & Go on Broad Street in Rural Hall,” officials said.
“Odds of matching all five balls are 1 in 962,598.”
The winning numbers were 1, 19, 24, 26, 39 and “Quick Pick” means Konat let the computer pick the numbers for him.
Konat lives in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, which is about a 355-mile drive north from Rural Hall in Forsythe County.
Winners in lottery drawings have 180 days to claim their prize and Konat showed up Monday, March 9, at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.
“After required federal and state tax withholdings, Konat took home $295,553,” officials said.
He did not reveal his plans for spending the money.
Rural Hall is about a 90-mile drive northeast from uptown Charlotte.
