A series of 911 calls reporting gunfire in the middle of the night led police to a body, a wounded man and an injured baby sitting together in a parked car, according to investigators in eastern North Carolina.

The discovery was made around 1:30 a.m. Thursday on Latham Avenue in Plymouth, about a 120-mile drive east from downtown Raleigh. The case is being investigated as a homicide, officials said.

“Communications began receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting the incident, including one advising that an individual had been shot at 110 Latham Avenue,” Plymouth police said in an April 2 news release.

“Upon arrival, officers located Devonelle Brimage ... unresponsive and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds inside a vehicle parked in the driveway of the residence. A second victim, Avione Linquad Webb ... was located in the rear seat of the vehicle also suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. An 8-month-old child was also present in the vehicle.”

Brimage, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene by Washington County EMS, and 38-year-old Webb and the infant were taken to Washington Regional Medical Center for treatment, officials said.

“Webb was later transferred to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina, for further treatment. The infant was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.”

Investigators have not released details of any relationship the baby had to the two men, or why it was traveling in the car at 1:30 a.m.

The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the investigation, officials said.
