Daring intruder broke into home 3 times over 4 days to demand cash, NC cops say
A man accused of breaking into a woman’s home to demand money managed to repeat the crime twice more before getting caught, according to investigators in eastern North Carolina.
The robberies happened between May 2 and May 5, and included one day when he broke in twice, the Scotland Neck Police Department said in a May 7 news release.
“The victim advised that Robin Callaham, 37, of Scotland Neck, entered her home without permission and demanded money from her,” police said. “The victim stated that Callaham made several threats and refused to leave the residence until money was provided to him.”
A warrant was issued for Callham’s arrest. However, he managed to get back into the home again before police could find him, officials said.
“On May 5, (police) responded to the victim’s residence after receiving a report that Callaham had returned. Upon arrival, Callaham fled the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended,” police said.
“Following Callaham’s arrest, the Scotland Neck Police Department learned of an additional incident that occurred earlier on the morning of his arrest. During that incident, Callaham allegedly returned to the victim’s residence, took additional money from the victim, and interfered with her attempt to contact 911.”
In each of the cases, the suspect demanded small amounts of cash, according to court records.
Callaham was briefly hospitalized after his arrested for undisclosed injuries, officials said.
He has been charged with:
- Felony breaking or entering to terrorize or injure
- Felony larceny after breaking or entering
- Misdemeanor false imprisonment
- Felony larceny from a person
- Misdemeanor interference with emergency communication
- Resisting an officer
Scotland Neck is in Halifax County about an 85-mile drive northeast from downtown Raleigh.
