Body found 9 days after woman vanished from blood spattered home, NC sheriff says

The body of a 62-year-old woman has been found along a highway, more than a week after she vanished from her blood-spattered home, according to investigators.

An autopsy is scheduled, but detectives suspect Terri Leedy was murdered June 13 by one of her housemates.

“The Stokes County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the address of 1335 Moorefield Rd, Danbury, N.C., in reference to a possible breaking and entering into the residence,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

“Upon arrival the patrol deputy discovered blood in the home and the homeowner, Terri Leedy ... and her vehicle missing.”

The vehicle was found abandoned more than two miles south on Jewel Road, officials said.

Then, on June 22, Leedy’s body was found along N.C. 89, between N.C. 8 and Piney Grove Church Road, the sheriff’s office said.

Evidence indicates 30-year-old Evan Samuel Johnson was involved in her death, leading to him being charged with murder, the sheriff’s office says.

A motive has not been released.

“The victim is no relation to the suspect, but (he) did live at the residence with his mother,” officials said.

Danbury is about a 105-mile drive northeast from uptown Charlotte.
