Gunfire sprayed a “large gathering” before dawn Sunday, wounding three people, according to investigators in North Carolina.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. in Statesville, and details of a motive have not been released.

“All three victims were transported to area hospitals, where they were evaluated for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening,” Statesville police said in a July 5 news release.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that a large gathering of individuals was assembled in the 1300 block of West Front Street when gunshots were fired.”

Identities of the wounded were not released, and police have not said if they have a suspect.

Maps show the 1300 block of West Front Street is a commercial strip, including grocery stores, a hotel and auto repair shops.

Statesville is about a 40-mile drive north from uptown Charlotte.
