A 14-year-old was sexually exploited in the middle of the night when a man she met on an app climbed through her window, according to investigators in North Carolina.

It happened June 27 at a home in Eden, and deputies were alerted when the girl was brought to a hospital and identified as the victim of a sexual assault, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office said in a July 14 news release.

“A male subject had entered the juvenile’s home through a window earlier that morning at approximately 3 a.m. It was reported that the juvenile and male had met on a texting application and had arranged to meet,” the sheriff’s office said.

“Detectives also learned the male suspect fled the home after being discovered with the female juvenile.”

The man was eventually identified as 18-year-old Luis Angel Zuniga-Salgado of Collinsville, Virginia, which is about 23 miles northwest of Eden, officials said.

Zuniga-Salgado was arrested July 9 in Henry County, Virginia, on warrants charging him with two counts of felony statutory rape of a juvenile under 15, felony first degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and felony second degree exploitation of a minor, officials said.

Zuniga-Salgado is also accused of being in the country illegally, resulting in Immigration and Customs Enforcement asking that he be detained for deportation, the sheriff’s office says.

Eden is about a 105-mile drive northwest from downtown Raleigh.
