Cyclists in critical condition after being hit by car in Johnston County

Investigators said Sunday they are monitoring the conditions of four cyclists injured in Johnston County Saturday before deciding on charges in the case.

Four bicyclists were injured Saturday afternoon when they were hit by a car near McGee’s Crossroads, according to the State Highway Patrol.

A WakeMed spokeswoman said cyclists Michael Dayton, 60, and Lynn Lashley, 57, were in critical condition Sunday afternoon. Two other riders involved in the wreck, Christopher Graham, 34; and Joel Arthur Lawrence, 57, were no longer at the hospital.

Authorities said a 1992 Crown Victoria was traveling north on Massengill Pond Road when it hit the bicyclists, who were in a single-file line, from the rear. The collision threw all four.

Authorities said the car’s driver, Donnie Marie Williams, 50, was not injured and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
