Young kids found deadbolted in rooms, living in ‘horrific conditions,’ SC cops say

Two adults are in custody after police say young children were found locked in rooms in a South Carolina home, media outlets report.

The children, who were 3 and 5 years old, were found deadbolted in roomsat a home in Summerville on Wednesday afternoon, WCSC reported.

Initially the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said seven children were found locked in rooms, according to WCSC, but after investigating it was determined that two children were locked in the rooms while two others were at school and another was at the doctor’s office with the parents.

All five of the children were living in “horrific conditions,” according to WCIV.

They were all sharing one double bed and deputies say there were deadbolts on the outside off all the rooms and caged animals in the room with the children, WCBD reported.

Deputies also found human feces, animal feces and trash in two bedrooms, according to WCSC.

The parents of the five children, Diana Salbon and Erick Perez-Viera, were both arrested and charged with unlawful conduct toward a child, according to WCBD.

Two other children were living in the downstairs of the house in “leviable conditions,” but their mother has not been charged, WCBD reported.

All seven children are now in the custody of the Department of Social Services, WCIV reported.
