2019 was the warmest year on record in this Georgia tourist spot. How hot was it?

A popular Georgia vacation spot rounded out the 2010s with its warmest year on record, officials say.

The 2019 average temperature was the highest ever recorded in the Savannah area, according to the National Weather Service.

So just how hot was it?

Last year’s average temperature was 69.8 degrees, narrowly surging past the previous record of 69.7 degrees, which was set in 2017, data from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport shows.

The record-breaking year comes after Savannah had above-normal average maximum temperatures for much of 2019, according to the National Weather Service. November was the only month when the measure was lower than normal, data shows.

Nearby, another tourist city had one of its warmest years in 2019.

Both downtown Charleston and Charleston International Airport had their fourth-hottest average temperatures on record, forecasters wrote on Twitter.
