‘Tiger King’ follow-up? Trailer for new documentary promises to focus on Doc Antle
One of the stars of Netflix’s hit documentary series “Tiger King” will be featured in a new documentary that promises to tell the “real story.”
Bhagavan “Doc” Antle, owner of Myrtle Beach Safari, has railed against the Netflix series since it first aired in March for allegedly promoting lies about him and his facility, including rumors about him running his business with cult-like tendencies and euthanizing tiger cubs.
A 60-second trailer for “Tiger Kingdom: More Than A King” was posted to YouTube and shared across various social media platforms Monday with Antle stating that “it’s time for you to hear my side of the story.”
A description of the video notes that “Tiger King” explored the world of murder, mayhem and madness among Joseph Maldonado-Passage, better known as Joe Exotic, Carole Baskin, Jeff Lowe and Tim Stark, but Exotic is in prison, Baskin has shut her gates to media, Lowe and Stark have lost their facility licenses and “only Doc Antle remains.”
The documentary has a devoted website, tigerkingdom.tv, and will be released Oct. 1 on WEIV, which describes itself as “a premium social access platform where fans subscribe for exclusive content,” according to company spokeswoman Natasha Roberts.
A voicemail left for Antle was not immediately returned. The trailer was shared by the Facebook page of Myrtle Beach Safari, also known as The Institute for Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (T.I.G.E.R.S.).
In a separate, 30-second clip on the series’ Facebook page, Antle jokes that he’d love to be Baskin’s partner on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” but he has “real responsibilities because I actually care for my wildlife.”
Baskin, who owns a tiger sanctuary in Florida, was the subject of Exotic’s murder-for-hire plot that landed him in prison, though she was portrayed in the Netflix show as a likely suspect in her ex-husband’s missing persons case.
