Last-minute decision to buy lottery ticket wins man huge jackpot in South Carolina
A South Carolina man was relaxing when he scratched off a $5 lottery ticket he’d picked up in the spur of the moment.
Suddenly, he was looking at a $200,000 win, he told lottery officials.
The Upstate man was shocked, especially considering he came close to not buying the lottery ticket.
“I was going home,” he told lottery officials. “Then I changed my mind and stopped at the store.”
He bought his lucky Carolina Gold 50X ticket at Store #105 on Harper Street in Laurens, according to lottery officials. When he first scratched off the jackpot, he told lottery officials he didn’t even move.
“I just laid there,” he told lottery officials. “It’s a blessing.”
The man beat 1 in 750,000 odds to win the first jackpot prize in the game, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.
The store that sold the lucky ticket received a $2,000 commission, according to lottery officials.
Laurens is about 71 miles northwest of Columbia.
