A man won a few bucks from a lottery ticket he bought at a gas station — but when he decided to use that cash to immediately play again, his earnings grew much bigger, according to South Carolina lottery officials.

A South Carolina man had stopped to fill up his car’s tank at VHS Inc. in Greenwood when he won $10 from a lottery ticket he bought inside, according to a Sept. 12 news release on the state lottery’s website. He used that to buy two more tickets.

One of those $5 Palmetto Cash 5 scratch-offs was a $200,000 jackpot winner.

“I almost fainted,” he told lottery officials.

His odds of winning were 1 in 720,000, but officials say there are still two more winning tickets to be found in the game.

The man has already begun the process of paying off his house, according to lottery officials.

“I’m going to own my own home,” he said. “It’s a great feeling.”

In addition to his winnings, the convenience store he bought the ticket from received a $2,000 commission.

Greenwood is about 80 miles northwest of Columbia, South Carolina.
