Summer storms delayed and canceled flights in Charlotte Thursday morning. By midday, security checkpoint waiting times rose.

The National Weather Service issued a hazard weather outlook warning that some bands of severe thunderstorms could bring damaging winds and large hail.

By 2:45 p.m., more than 400 flights had been delayed and 41 were canceled at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, according to FlightAware.

American Airlines delayed 270 flights, and otherwise Piedmont and PSA Airlines saw the most canceled flights.

TSA checkpoint wait times exceeded CLT’s normal range, stretching up to 44 minutes around midday. By 2:45 p.m., they returned to about 20 minutes.

The airport tweeted a weather update, reminding people to check for updates with their airlines.

The storms were expected to clear before the afternoon.
