Charlotte under heat advisory with index up to 108 degrees; storms likely Monday
Monday is hot, humid, and may feel like more than 100 degrees in Charlotte.
As of Monday afternoon, temperatures in the area were in the mid 90s and the National Weather Service had a heat advisory in place until about 8 p.m.
The heat index showed temperatures up to 108 degrees, according to NWS. This means that while temperatures remain in the mid to high 90s, it will feel hotter than 100 degrees outside.
Already, the heat index in Charlotte has exceeded 100 degrees in late June, mid July, and earlier this month, The Charlotte Observer previously reported.
Heat-based sickness and injuries can come on quickly, NWS says. The agency suggests drinking plenty of water, staying indoors, and checking on loved ones who may be without heat.
Thunderstorms and small amounts of hail and gusty wind are possible after 5 p.m., according to the Weather Channel.
“Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening. Any of these storms may produce dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning, gusty winds, and locally heavy rainfall,” the National Weather Service said Monday.
