Fierce winds pummel Charlotte area during storms Wednesday as rain continues
National Weather Service meteorologists urged Union County residents to take shelter Wednesday morning as fierce winds moved into the Charlotte area with storms.
Gusts up to 40 mph were possible in Monroe, Waxhaw, Unionville and Marshville, NWS forecasters sad on the social media site X at 8:18 a.m.
The warning lasted until 9 a.m. No injuries or damage was immediately reported.
Showers are forecast to end by late morning as windy and colder conditions move in throughout the day, NWS forecasters said on X.
In the mountains, snow showers are expected in counties bordering Tennessee, with light accumulations above 3,500 feet, according to the NWS.
“Be prepared for changing weather conditions!” NWS meteorologists said on X.
Charlotte forecast
Showers and thunderstorms should move from the region by 1 p.m. Wednesday, according to the 10 a.m. Charlotte forecast. Patchy fog could linger until about 2 p.m., NWS forecasters said.
The temperature should drop to around 44 degrees by 5 p.m., according to the forecast. Skies should be clear late Wednesday as the predicted low plummets below freezing, to 31 degrees.
Thursday should be all sunshine but only reach 49 degrees, with a low of 30 overnight, the forecast showed. A high of 52 is expected on Friday and Saturday under partly sunny skies, before showers have a 60% chance of moving in again late Saturday. The rain should end by 9 a.m. Sunday, forecasters said.
A high of 53 is forecast on Sunday under mostly cloudy conditions. Monday and Tuesday should improve to respective highs of 61 and 62, with mostly sunny skies, according to the forecast.
