Charlotte temps to plummet after hazardous dense fog, NWS says. ‘Temperature whiplash.’
Charlotte temperatures are expected to plummet after a dense fog blanketed the region early Wednesday, prompting National Weather Service safety alerts to drivers.
The advisory also included the mountains, N.C. Piedmont and Upstate South Carolina.
The fog was expected to lift by about 10 a.m. and is forecast to be followed this week by a drastic drop in temperatures, according to the NWS office in Greer, South Carolina.
“A temperature whiplash,” NWS meteorologists said on X.
A cold front is expected to move across the Western Carolinas and northeast Georgia Wednesday night, according to the NWS.
In the Charlotte area and beyond, highs expected in the 60s to low 70s on Wednesday are forecast to plummet into the 30s and 40s by Sunday, according to the NWS.
“Not quite all 4 seasons in one week, but it’s close,” NWS meteorologists said on X. “Plan ahead if traveling this weekend.”
Charlotte forecast
Charlotte was expected to hit a high of 69 on Wednesday, the NWS Charlotte forecast at 9 a.m. showed.
Highs are forecast to drop to 56 on Thursday, 55 on Friday, 46 on Saturday, 41 on Sunday and 42 on Monday. Tuesday’s high is predicted to rise to 47 degrees.
Lows are likewise expected to plummet, from a predicted 46 early Thursday to 38 early Friday, 32 early Saturday, 26 early Sunday, 22 early Monday and 24 early Tuesday.
The good news? After a 40% chance of rain early Thursday, skies in Charlotte should stay partly to mostly sunny into next week.
