A beach hazards statement was released by the NWS Wakefield VA on Saturday at 7:53 p.m. valid for Sunday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. for Eastern Currituck.
The NWS informs, "Breaking waves of 3 to 5 feet will result in rough surf conditions and a high risk of rip currents."
"Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water," comments the NWS. "A Beach Hazards Statement is issued when threats such as rip currents, longshore currents, sneaker waves, and other hazards create life-threatening conditions in the surf zone. Caution should be used when in or near the water Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions."
