A report from the NWS Wilmington NC was issued on Thursday at 1:22 a.m. for fire danger until 8 p.m. The alert is for Inland Pender, Coastal Pender, Inland New Hanover, Coastal New Hanover, Inland Brunswick and Coastal Brunswick as well as Robeson, Bladen and Columbus counties.
"The combination of extremely dry fuels and gusty southwest winds will lead to increased fire danger today. Dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily ignite and spread fire quickly due to the breezy conditions," according to the NWS.
The NWS states, "Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn. If you do, you are advised to use extreme caution."
This alert is in effect until 8 p.m.
