Extreme heat warning in place for Eastern North Carolina until Wednesday evening

On Wednesday at 1:47 a.m. an extreme heat warning was released by the NWS Wilmington NC valid between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. The warning is for Inland Pender, Coastal Pender, Inland New Hanover, Coastal New Hanover, Inland Brunswick and Coastal Brunswick as well as Bladen and Columbus counties.
The NWS informs, "Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 113 degrees expected."
"Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events," explains the NWS.
This warning is in effect until 8 p.m.

- Consider the timing: When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
- Recognize warning signs: Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
- Stay cool with clothing: Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
To ensure safety during outdoor work, adhere to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)'s recommendations by incorporating regular rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
