Beach hazards statement issued for Coastal Pender and Coastal New Hanover for Saturday

A beach hazards statement was issued by the NWS Wilmington NC on Friday at 9:15 p.m. valid for Saturday between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. for Coastal Pender and Coastal New Hanover.

The NWS informs, "Strong south to North longshore current expected, mainly during the afternoon and evening."

"Longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers into rip currents, piers, jetties, and other hazardous areas. It may sweep swimmers off their feet, making it difficult to return to shore," explains the NWS. "Caution should be used when in or near the water. Check with lifeguards before entering the ocean for possible hazards you may be swept into."

This statement is in effect until Saturday at 8 p.m.
