Sleet, ice and downed trees created problems across the Charlotte area Sunday, while heavy snow and sleet blanketed areas north of Mecklenburg County.

The ice was responsible for power outages that affected hundreds of thousands of customers across the Carolinas and downed large limbs and trees that blocked roads.

Here is a county-by-county look at conditions, closings and weather at counties across the region (reports are from National Weather Service, state transportation departments, law enforcement and the Observer’s news partner, WBTV:

This is the latest weather forecast for the Charlotte area from WBTV. The forecast is calling for historic amounts of snow and ice.

North Carolina

MECKLENBURG

Weather: Cloudy, 34 degrees in Charlotte.

What has fallen: 2-3 inches of snow and sleet in Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson. Officially, 2.7 inches at the airport. Traces of snow and sleet in south and southeast Mecklenburg. About 1/8 to ¼ inch of ice accumulated from Charlotte southward.

Roads: Main roads are wet, with slush in spots. Secondary roads are wet to slushy, with some ice on roads in north Mecklenburg. Downed trees and limbs blocking part of roads across the county.

Power outages: About 50,000 (10 percent of customers).

Closings of note: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools, CPCC, Davidson Day and Lake Norman Charter schools closed Monday. SouthPark Mall and Charlotte Premier Outlets close at 5 p.m. Sunday. Concord Mills and Northlake Mall closed all day.

Charlotte Area Transit System shut down light rail service at midday Sunday.

Charlotte city and Mecklenburg County government offices open on a two-hour delay Monday.

ALEXANDER

Weather: Snow has ended. 32 degrees in Taylorsville.

What has fallen: 15 inches of snow in Taylorsville.

Roads: Roads are snow and ice covered. Travel is discouraged, according to the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office.

Power outages: About 500 customers (less than 1 percent).

Closings of note: Alexander County Schools closed Monday.

ANSON

Weather: Drizzle; 35 degrees in Wadesboro.

What has fallen: Rain. Only light sleet was reported overnight in northern Anson.

Roads: Wet.

Power outages: Few.

Closings of note: Anson County Schools will open on two-hour delay Monday.

ASHE

Weather: Light snow; 26 degrees in Jefferson.

What has fallen: 14 inches in West Jefferson; 14 inches in Fleetwood.

Roads: Roads are snow-covered and impassable in spots.

Power outages: Few.

Closings of note: Ashe County Schools closed Monday; many businesses closed in Jefferson and West Jefferson.

AVERY

Weather: Light snow; temperatures in mid 20s.

What has fallen: 18 inches in Linville.

Roads: Roads are snow-covered. Travel is discouraged, according to the Avery County Sheriff’s Office.

Power outages: About 250 (3 percent).

Closings of note: None. Ski resorts report they are open and operating Sunday.

BURKE

Weather: Light flurries; 33 degrees in Morganton; upper 20s at higher elevations.

What has fallen: 14 inches in Valdese; 13 inches in Morganton.

Roads: Roads are snow- and ice-covered. Interstate 40 wet to slushy.

Power outages: About 2,300 customers from Duke Energy and Rutherford Electric (10 percent).

Closings of note: Burke County Schools and Western Piedmont Community College closed Monday.

CABARRUS

Weather: Precipitation has ended; 33 degrees in Concord.

What has fallen: 2.5 inches in Concord; 3 inches in Kannapolis; about a half-inch near Midland.

Roads: Interstate 85 is wet. Main roads are wet, with some icy spots. Secondary roads are slushy and slippery.

Power outages: About 3,000 outages for Duke Energy and Union Electric (5 percent).

Closings of note: Cabarrus County School, Kannapolis City Schools and Cabarrus Charter closed Monday. Charlotte Motor Speedway Christmas lights not operating Sunday night.

CALDWELL

Weather: Precipitation has ended; 31 degrees in Lenoir.

What has fallen: 13.5 inches in Lenoir; 12 inches in Hudson.

Roads: U.S. 321 wet to snow-covered. Other roads are snow- and ice-covered.

Power outages: About 4,300 customers of Duke Energy and Blue Ridge Electric (9 percent).

Closings of note: Caldwell County Schools closed Monday.

CATAWBA

Weather: Precipitation has ended; 32 degrees in Hickory.

What has fallen: 12 inches in Hickory; 11 inches in Newton; about 8 inches near Lake Norman.

Roads: Interstate 40 and U.S. 321 are wet to slushy with some ice-covered spots. Other main roads are wet to snow-covered. Secondary roads are snow-covered.

Power outages: Few.

Closings of note: Catawba County Schools, Hickory Schools, Newton-Conover Schools closed Monday. Newton city offices closed.

CLEVELAND

Weather: Precipitation has ended; 31 degrees in Shelby.

What has fallen: Snowfall ranges from 6.5 inches in Kings Mountain to 8 inches in Lawndale (northern part of county).

Roads: Interstate 85 is wet to slushy. Other roads are slushy to snow-covered.

Power outages: About 1,000 Duke Energy customers (3 percent).

Closings of note: Cleveland County Schools closed Monday.

GASTON

Weather: Precipitation has ended; 32 degrees in Gastonia.

What has fallen: About 1 inch of sleet in southern Gaston County, ranging up to 4 inches in Belmont and Gastonia and nearly 6 inches near Bessemer City.

Roads: Main roads, including Interstate 85, are wet with some icy spots. Secondary roads are slushy to snow-covered.

Power outages: About 3,100 Duke Energy customers (5 percent).

Closings of note: Gaston County Schools and Gaston College closed Monday. City of Gastonia Transit not operating Monday.

IREDELL

Weather: Light snow in northern part of county; 32 degrees in Statesville.

What has fallen: Snow and sleet ranged from about 3 inches in Mooresville and Troutman, up to 9 inches in Statesville.

Roads: Interstates 77 and 40 wet with some slushy spots; other main roads wet to snow-covered; secondary roads snow-covered and slippery.

Power outages: About 380 Duke Energy customers (1 percent).

Closings of note: Mooresville Schools and Statesville Christian closed Monday. Mitchell Community College closed Monday. County government closed Monday.

LINCOLN

Weather: Precipitation has ended; 33 degrees in Lincolnton.

What has fallen: 4.8 inches of snow and sleet in Lincolnton. Heavier amounts to the west, near Vale.

Roads: Snow- and ice-covered. N.C. Highway Patrol reported more than 25 wrecks in the county between midnight and 8 a.m.

Power outages: Few.

Closings of note: Lincoln County Schools and Lincoln Charter School closed Monday.

RICHMOND

Weather: Precipitation has ended; 36 degrees in Rockingham.

What has fallen: Rain.

Roads: Wet.

Power outages: None.

Closings of note: None.

ROWAN

Weather: Precipitation has ended; 31 degrees in Salisbury.

What has fallen: 4.5 inches of snow and sleet in Salisbury.

Roads: Interstate 85 is wet to slushy. Main roads are slushy, with some icy spots. Secondary roads are snow- and ice-covered.

Power outages: About 1,900 outages (3 percent).

Closings of note: Rowan-Salisbury Schools closed Monday. Rowan Transit not operating Monday.

STANLY

Weather: Precipitation has ended; 33 degrees in Albemarle.

What has fallen: Snow and sleet ranged from a half-inch near the Anson County line, up to 3 inches near the Rowan County line.

Roads: Main roads are wet, with slush in spots. Secondary roads are wet to slushy.

Power outages: About 5,400 outages (32 percent).

Closings of note: Stanly Community College closed Monday.

UNION

Weather: Precipitation has ended; 34 degrees in Monroe.

What has fallen: Less than an inch of sleet fell in western Union. Ice accumulations exceeded 1/10 of an inch in western Union.

Roads: Wet, with some slushy spots.

Power outages: 5,400 outages (8 percent).

Closings of note: Union County Schools will open on a two-hour delay Monday.

WATAUGA

Weather: Light snow; 26 degrees in Boone.

What has fallen: 16 inches in Boone; 15 inches in Todd.

Roads: Snow-covered and hazardous.

Power outages: Few.

Closings of note: Watauga County Schools closed Monday.

South Carolina

CHESTER

Weather: Precipitation has ended.

What has fallen: Some sleet was reported overnight, but precipitation mostly has been rain; 36 degrees in Chester.

Roads: Wet.

Power outages: None.

Closings of note: Chester County schools will operate on a two-hour delay Monday.

CHESTERFIELD

Weather: Precipitation has ended; 36 degrees in Chesterfield.

What has fallen: Rain.

Roads: Wet.

Power outages: None.

Closings of note: None.

LANCASTER

Weather: Precipitation has ended; 35 degrees in Lancaster.

What has fallen: A coating of sleet fell overnight in northern Lancaster. Otherwise, it was rain and freezing rain. Ice accumulations of 1/10 inch in Indian Land.

Roads: Wet.

Power outages: Few.

Closings of note: Lancaster County schools will operate on a two-hour delay Monday.

YORK

Weather: Precipitation has ended; 33 degrees in Rock Hill.

What has fallen: About 2/10 of an inch of ice was reported earlier in Rock Hill. About a half-inch of sleet accumulated overnight in Fort Mill, Clover and Tega Cay.

Roads: Main roads are wet, with slushy spots. Interstate 77 reported to be wet.

Power outages: Few.

Closings of note: All York County school districts closed Monday. York Preparatory Academy and Riverwalk Academy are also closed.

Rock Hill city parks, recreation centers and trails are closed.
