Charlotte Museum of History launching exhibit featuring Observer cartoonist Kevin Siers

Charlotte Museum of History

For more than 35 years, Kevin Siers has delighted Charlotte Observer readers by pointing his pen at local officeholders, state lawmakers and whoever happens to be living in the White House. He’s a brilliant, Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonist. He’s a thoughtful member of our editorial board. He’s a Charlotte treasure.

Beginning this weekend, the Charlotte Museum of History is presenting “Captured in Cartoons - 200 years of Charlotte’s history as interpreted in comics, caricatures and animation.“ The exhibit launches Saturday with an event that includes a presentation from Kevin.

The exhibit, which will run from April 2023 through May 2024, features original sketches from Kevin and other cartoons and items from Charlotte’s history through the lens of four main themes: war, sports, the Charlotte News, and animation/advertising. You’ll also see a “create your own cartoon” station, a recreation of Kevin’s office - including the desk he and cartoonist Doug Marlette used for decades - and an iPad where visitors can see most every cartoon drawn by Kevin in the last 20 years.

The museum is located at 3500 Shamrock Drive in Charlotte.
