This wasn’t about ‘balance,’ Mayor Roberts

I wanted protection, not balance

In response to “City ‘struck the right balance,’ mayor says” (Sept. 30):

Wow, I did not know this was about “balance.”

I thought it was about protecting the citizens and property owners.

The man who was beaten by 10 rioters and now faces surgery, the man who was shot and killed by rioters, all the property owners who are now paying to have their businesses repaired – what side of the balance scale are they on?

This was not about balance, this was about protection and you, Mayor Roberts, failed!

Roberts clearly supports CMPD

In response to “Mayor Roberts needs to stand with CMPD” (Sept. 29 Opinion):

Bradford Muller’s role with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Foundation clouds his judgment.

His suggestion that Mayor Roberts should “go along” hindering transparency insults the Charlotte community she serves.

The mayor does support police. She wrote: “Our police officers are tasked with an immensely difficult job. ... Their response to last week’s crisis and their hard work to protect all citizens is a testament both to their training and their love of this city.”

She did not encourage looting, as Muller suggests.

The “video truth” is the high ground that will set CMPD and Charlotte free; is there a problem?

Count me out on shouldering blame

In response to “Whites responsible for plight of blacks” (Sept. 28 Forum):

I disagree that whites are responsible for the plight of blacks.

I started working doing odd jobs when I was 12 years old to help get the things that I otherwise could not have.

I worked two jobs most of my adult life to give my family things that one job could not afford.

This is America, home of opportunity. If Forum writer James Mulcahy wants to shoulder the blame, he can also have my share.

Hillary you approved of, hasn’t changed

To those who are anti-Hillary: Please remember, when she stepped down as Secretary of State you gave her an approval rating of 69 percent.

The only difference between Hillary-then and Hillary-today is a vicious, mean-spirited smear campaign by a man who won’t even share his tax information.

Dan Laurent, Charlotte

If Hillary is elected, kiss jobs good-bye

In response to “The day ‘Bless your heart’ got cussed out” (Sept. 28 Opinion):

You speak of the need for “social mobility,” but how can there be social mobility when there are no good jobs left?

Whether it’s due to taxes, regulation, or just plain greed, millions of manufacturing jobs are gone.

Folks, listen to Donald Trump’s message.

Hillary Clinton will not change anything. Once in office, she’ll again call TPP the “gold standard” of trade agreements and we can kiss the rest of manufacturing goodbye.

Gov. McCrory sure shifts blame a lot

In response to “McCrory: Politics was real reason Cooper met with Roberts” (Sept. 28):

Is it just me, or does Gov. Pat McCrory have a habit of blaming the other guy when things are not going his way?

Whenever things get tough, it’s never McCrory’s fault. In fact, sometimes he won’t even respond to questions from the media if it will jeopardize his politics.

Unless he was in the room when Mayor Jennifer Roberts and Attorney General Roy Cooper spoke, he’s making false assumptions.

It’s no wonder HB2 remains in limbo.

Want laughs? Read the real Loomis tale

I just watched the trailer for “Masterminds,” the story of the Loomis Fargo heist.

I detect a shortcoming. It appears the movie-makers have attempted to enhance the comic aspect of this story.

Entirely unnecessary.

If you read verbatim the story of the heist and subsequent events in the Observer, you’ll laugh your butt off.

What makes this caper so ridiculously funny is that no exaggeration could possibly improve its entertainment value.
