GOP laid groundwork for Trump, now learn from it
GOP must learn from its Trump mistake
Essentially, the GOP is the obvious victim as this deplorable campaign spirals down to anarchy, unsubstantiated rumors and fear.
But there is another victim – our country and its entire election process.
To have a man so blatantly unqualified as the standard-bearer for one of our two main parties is by far the most frightening aspect of 2016.
Maybe, hopefully, the Republicans who created the atmosphere and laid the groundwork for him will examine themselves thoroughly and honestly.

Truth about Clinton can’t be glossed over
As the Democratic Party and much of the media extol the virtues of Hillary Clinton they conveniently gloss over or ignore one essential truth.
As Secretary of State, she had to realize that using private servers, rather than government secured servers, was reckless, proving to me deliberate “intent” when she circumvented foreign policy protocol and national security.
Strong arguments can be made to put Clinton in a jail cell rather than the Oval Office.

What if it had been Obama on the bus?
Close your eyes and imagine a bus entering a Hollywood lot. A conversation is in progress between a reporter and a man who will later become a major party’s candidate for president.
The man brags about his history of assaulting and violating women with non-consensual kisses, gropes and grabs.
He brags about his ability to get away with these predatory acts because he’s a celebrity.
Now, imagine that the would-be candidate for U.S. president is named Barack Obama.
Would he be president?

Gov. McCrory that I know is no skunk
I was shocked to see how low Kevin Siers sank with his Oct. 13 skunk cartoon.
From the day Gov. Pat McCrory took office, this paper has been out to destroy our governor, who I personally know to be a good man.
To characterize Pat McCrory as a skunk over the most overblown issue in my lifetime is disgusting, even for the Observer.

Dems played major role in N.C. imbalance
Dems played major role in N.C. imbalance
In response to “N.C. business leader: It’s time to rein in Raleigh” (Oct. 14 Opinion):
Writer Ric Elias says it’s time to change the “blatant imbalance in our state government.”
Until 2012, when North Carolina elected a Republican governor, Democrat politics held sway in our state for two decades.
That glaring imbalance gave us smothering debt, dysfunctions in state agencies, and growth limiting taxes, both business and personal.
Yes, we need more collaborative leadership in Raleigh, but please don’t insult those who have attempted to balance what was imbalanced.

Franklin’s Bible is different than mine
In response to “Graham praises McCrory at Raleigh rally” (Oct. 14):
Just exactly which Bible is Franklin Graham reading?
I have several versions and none of them say anything about the Supreme Court.
They do, however, cover personal behavior and words. I cannot find any instance where Jesus mocked, degraded or debased women, minorities, the disabled, and “less than 10’s,” and He certainly never incited His followers to violence or vitriol.
Mr. Graham is turning the sincere Bible-based religion preached by his father into a springboard to celebrity political king-maker.
What else will Mr. Graham excuse to achieve that goal?

This bank robbery requires an MBA
In response to “Wells Fargo sales scandal costs the CEO his job” (Oct. 13):
Wells Fargo CEO John Stumpf is living proof that crime really does pay.
All you young dudes selling drugs and sticking up stores, take heed.
Put away your dime bags and guns. Go to school, get an education, get yourself an MBA. Join corporate America.
You can then rob the world blind, never do any time, and retire with zillions.
