In response to “Panel: By 2024, sea level may rise 10.6 inches on N.C. coast” (April 1):

Governor must act on coastal report

The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission report should be of concern to everyone who owns property, runs a business on the coast, or enjoys vacationing at our beaches.

Scientists assess our coast’s future based on levels of greenhouse gas emissions. This is where we can make a difference.

It’s time for Gov. Pat McCrory to take responsibility and address a clear threat to the well-being of North Carolinians.

Backing the EPA’s Clean Power Plan, which proposes limits on carbon pollution, is a good start in helping North Carolina move toward a clean energy future.

America deserves better than Hillary Clinton for president

We used to demand that a president resign for criminal activity. Now, we elect candidates in spite of suspected criminal activity.

By deleting her emails Hillary Clinton has out-Nixoned Nixon.

And because a large number of voters treat presidential elections like an episode of American Idol, we just may elect her because we’ve never had a woman president.

Have we really sunk this low, America?

Religious freedom bill is just red meat for conservative base

I find it appalling that our leaders in Raleigh insist on copying the worst impulses of legislatures from around the country.

The Indiana religious freedom bill has been rightly condemned, and the fact that the N.C. legislature is considering such a measure is ridiculous.

This really isn’t about religious freedom; it is simply a “red meat” issue meant to energize the conservative base.

After all, would you see the same calls to protect religious liberty if it meant allowing a Muslim business owner to discriminate against Christians?

I think not.

What about my Christian beliefs? Protect them too

I might agree that there may be some need for changes to the proposed religious freedom laws, but freedoms of Christians need to be protected too.

I don’t believe in discrimination against anyone, but it seems that as long as we Christians turn the other cheek then everything is fine.

But is it fine to deprive us of our rights and freedoms?

We have always tried to get along, but we are now standing up for our beliefs, rights and freedoms.

In response to Eric Frazier “Bill aims to hit passing lane slowpokes with $200 fine” (April 1 O-pinion):

No fine needed, just enforce current rules of the road

Instead of a $200 fine for pass-lane interference, wouldn’t it be better to enforce existing road laws?

Tailgating to intimidate drivers and sudden stops cause chain-reaction accidents. I’ve had to accelerate to over 80 mph to get out of the way of these drivers.

Speed limits should be set for maximum safety and traffic movement. And maintaining a minimum travel distance between vehicles would speed up all traffic, eliminating rush-hour stop and crawl.

In response to Peter St. Onge “Want to be the mayor? Say so” (March 27 Opinion):

Roberts is no long shot in mayor’s race, she’s front-runner

I was flummoxed to read that mayoral candidate Jennifer Roberts is “considered a long shot by political insiders and observers.”

I don’t know who Mr. St. Onge talked to, but Jennifer is the clear front-runner.

A passionate public servant, former chair of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners, a progressive, and the only candidate who shares my values, Jennifer is a champion for education, the environment, and job creation. She has support from women, African-Americans, Hispanics, and the LGBTQ community.

I can only guess the “political insiders and observers” the Observer spoke to were opponents Michael Barnes, David Howard, and Mayor Dan Clodfelter.
