Here’s why Trump won’t act against Russia

Trump must enforce sanctions law

Why won’t President Trump impose the sanctions against Russia?

David McCauley

Do you believe the Russians interfered in the 2016 presidential election? All our intelligence agencies do. Nearly all our elected officials in Congress do. The vast majority of Americans do.

But our president doesn’t? I can only think of two possible reasons he refuses to enforce this law passed by Congress.

1.) He is afraid it will taint his presidential victory.

2.) Putin has some dirt on him concerning his finances with Russia.

If any of his supporters can give me just one other logical reason for his actions, I’d love to hear it.

Pouting Dems can no longer count on me

My lasting impression of President Trump’s State of the Union address will forever be the demeanor of the Democratic Congressional delegation. They pouted like petulant teenagers with their Xbox privileges revoked. What a sorry sight!

I was a registered Democrat for more than 40 years, but under their current leadership they can no longer count on me.

Too many iconic U.S. brands foreign owned

The economy is booming. Unemployment hovers at historic lows. Tax rates are falling. Rank-and-file bonuses abound. Billions in corporate investments are announced every month.

Yet, our iconic American brands are rapidly being sold off to foreign investors – Budweiser, Ben & Jerry’s, Burger King, to name just a few, and now Xerox.

I’ll be looking for labels that state: “Made in America. American Owned.”

Use the power of the polls on Congress

To the voting public:

Everyone hollers term limits for Congress. We have always had term limits – they are called elections.

We have one every two years. If you don’t like the job your member of Congress is doing, vote them out and keep voting them out until someone decides to do the job they’re elected to do.

An easy funding fix: Don’t break the law

In response to “Calls rise for DA to stop pricing out low-income defendants” (Jan. 29):

In reference to low-income defendants needing financial help, I laughed out loud. How about don’t break the law, then you won’t need funding for a lawyer. Articles like this make us shake our heads in disbelief.

Say a resounding ‘no’ to Duke’s rate hike

In response to “Customers, critics slam Duke Energy for rate hike plan” (Jan. 31):

Justify two things and I will agree to a Duke Energy rate hike.

1.) Justify the mega-bucks Duke’s CEO is paid.

2.) Prove to me that Duke Energy customers created the coal ash problem by storing coal ash in ponds.

It is my understanding there are companies willing to use coal ash in concrete, so are we to pay for the clean-up so that Duke can sell the ash and make even more money?

It is time for the N.C. Utilities Commission to give Duke a big resounding NO!

Use tax savings to restore free checking

In response to “Congressmen blast BofA for ending free checking account” (Jan. 28):

Hats off to Bank of America – so we can all scratch our heads.

Dropping free checking for a small grandfathered group of customers amounts to a whopper of a public relations blunder.

While other savvy companies reaping a windfall from the new tax law recognize an opportunity to do the right thing and score points with the public, BofA decides to put it to its most economically vulnerable customers. What genius!

Thanks for balanced look at stadium issue

In response to “ ‘Stadium extortion’ arguments for Panthers ‘folly,’ industry experts say – except one” (Jan. 29):

After all the rubbish, scary nonsense, and Chicken Little “the-sky-is-falling” garbage we’ve had to listen to lately, many thanks to sports reporter Joe Person for the interesting, clear and substantive article on “stadium extortion” and the question of our need for a new stadium.
