Pruitt is proof Trump failed on campaign promises
Trump falls short on campaign promises
Two of Donald Trump’s broader campaign promises were that he would drain the swamp and hire only the best people. Now Scott Pruitt joins a long list of disgraced administration officials whose departures collectively prove that Trump has failed miserably on both pledges.
Trump stuck with his EPA chief through a multitude of ethical lapses, but evidently the 14th scandal proved to be the tipping point.
If you’re a supporter of the Trump agenda, the good news is that Pruitt managed to do a great deal of damage to the environment in a relatively short period of time.

As a Democrat, I’m increasingly fed up
City Council member Braxton Winston says Charlotte shouldn’t host the Republican National Convention because the Republicans offer “a brand of politics that has been highly divisive.”
I suggest he take a long, hard look at the Democratic Party lately, with the rhetoric thrown about from the likes of US Rep. Maxine Waters and others. And I’m a registered Democrat.
I, like many in my party, have become increasingly fed up with the way our party is going. I’ll be another Democrat saying I didn’t leave the party, the party left me, if this kind of attitude continues.

City hosted DNC, now do same for RNC
City hosted DNC, now do same for RNC
Charlotte is proud of hosting the DNC and should be proud of hosting another of the most valuable events that our democracy is built on.
Our country is designed on democratic principles and processes that should be supported regardless of the candidates. Deciding whether to host or not based on fear of possible protests is yielding to intimidation by those who do not value the principles and processes of democracy.

Winston’s brand of politics is divisive
Braxton Winston’s comment that Charlotte would be “host to a celebration for a brand of politics that has been highly divisive and some would say dangerous to our community” is malevolent.
He fails to put the fault for division on the previous administration. At every opportunity the Obama administration sowed seeds and flourished the garden of division, destruction, hatred, and racism, taking the USA backwards unlike any time in America’s history!
It seems Winston chooses to ignore the fact that democracy, the republic, and respect for the party system are part of the equation. Braxton, your “brand of politics” intentionally calls for division.

Too quick to believe conspiracy theories
Thousands of government employees are doing something devious and only Trump can stop them? (“Democrats sowing seeds of civil war,” July 2 Forum)
Sometimes the obvious answer is the answer. Perhaps most public servants have the country’s best interests at heart. They see a morally, legally, and politically unethical person being investigated for possibly colluding with Russia to sway an American election.
Some of you act like Trump is a messiah. He is far from it. Forget the conspiracy theories – there are no lizard people. Let the public servants protect democracy – no one is above the law.

Help homeless first, not illegal immigrants
Help homeless first, not illegal immigrants
We have people in our government who want to let illegal immigrants into our country, not only allowing them to break our laws but giving them lodging, food, health care and schooling. Letting them vote would destroy our country.
At the same time, we have thousands of homeless citizens across the country who’ve had bad luck, worked hard, paid their taxes, and we refuse them any help at all.
Who should come first? There is no question!

Richardson deserves this city’s thanks
In response to “What will happen to the public tributes to Jerry Richardson?” (July 3):
There are few people in the long history of this area who’ve done as much as Jerry Richardson. Hopefully our new owner will keep the 13-foot statue of him where it is. If not, let us move it to the entrance of uptown, not to honor any misdeeds, but the tremendous achievement of bringing the NFL here and some pretty good football.
We might even erect a statue of sports promoter Max Muhleman who played a major part in getting the Hornets and the Panthers here. Put Max right up there with Jerry!
