Trump sold us out in Russia

Trump sold the U.S. out in Russia

I hope all Trump “patriots” are pleased with his sell-out of our country in front of Vladimir Putin. What he did on Monday was absolutely unbelievable. He trashed his own intelligence community in front of the Russians. He did all of this to confirm the legitimacy of his election to no one but himself.

“Make America Great Again.” He sure has a novel way of trying. He needs to be trounced in the next election. Step up and defend him, if you can, Trump fans.

Donald Trump conceded to Russia

I watched Donald Trump’s concession speech to Russia Monday with increasing anger and disgust. It is past time that this traitor is removed from office and further punished for his treasonous actions against our country. Time for Republicans to step up to the plate.

Thank you for tolerance, Mayor

Thank you, Mayor Lyles, for your attempts to bring the RNC to Charlotte. Thank you for trying to work with people who approach problems differently. Through your open-minded attitude our children might learn there are actually constructive ways to deal with other opinions. You are teaching how to attack a problem and not people.

Speech censorship is a slippery slope

In response to “Why did Democrats wait to oppose the RNC?” (July 15):

Justin Harlow’s opposition to hosting the RNC puts us on a slippery slope. Imagine having opposed the DNC convention based on how local Republicans felt about President Barack Obama. Would Louis Farrakhan be denied appearing in consideration of those that oppose his views.? Would Pride Day events be reconsidered based on the feelings the anti-gay community? Tolerance is a two way street!

Court appointee won’t dictate future

I'm pro-choice, a progressive by most anyone's standards, and I think the Senate should confirm the current Supreme Court nominee quickly.

American history tells the ongoing story of executive versus legislative versus judicial power. The far right will not win forever, and their fear of what changing demographics mean for the future of our country will come to pass, so let the court go more conservative for now. Pro-choice will prevail in the 21st century.

Don't let backlash against good Democratic senators in red states embolden the current administration and permit the legislative branch to become weaker.

How should we name our buildings?

Regardless of personal opinions on whether or not to remove Jerry Richardson’s statue, one would assume that integrity in moral standards require that those standards be applied consistently. Consequently, removal of Richardson’s statue would also require renaming Bob Walton Plaza.

For that matter, to avoid discretionary morality, would not all named structures be subject to this standard and require their names be removed since no one is perfect? Moreover, naming anything in the future should never be considered again, for names would have to be removed immediately, as we know humans are imperfect.

Or, perhaps, celebrating the good things about each other might be more uplifting.

Time will tell on Mark Harris

In response to “Don't dismiss Harris, he's not out of touch” (July 15 Forum):

If God's word is not obsolete then the true test of Mark Harris' religious convictions will be exemplified by how much he cozies up to the president.

Donald Trump has lived an immoral life consisting of adultery, habitual lying, love of money and the theft of goods and services by not paying contractors. Will Harris put his political ambitions ahead of his religious principles? That question will be answered in the months ahead.

Send Trump to etiquette school

Would somebody please tell President Trump to button his jacket? He’s got to be Mr. Casual even while reviewing the Queen’s guards with the queen?

No wonder the Brits protested.
