Ban Hillary Clinton and Helen Keller? What’s next?
What extreme will be next for America?
So the Texas Board of Education wants to remove the likes of Hillary Clinton, Helen Keller and others from history books? To paraphrase a famous saying: “One giant step backwards and one giant leap toward fascism!”
What’s next? Book burning? Dangerous times indeed!

We shouldn’t be out to destroy all men
In response to “Kavanaugh hearings show: The left is out to vilify men” (Oct. 3 Opinion):
There are certainly despicable men in our country, and women for that matter, but there are upstanding, respectful and honest men as well. I believe Brett Kavanaugh to be one of the latter unless Dr. Ford’s allegations are corroborated per due process and Judge Kavanaugh is proven guilty.
Women undressing at protests and wearing obscene hats are leading a politically charged movement to defame men even when they are innocent. As a mother of two sons, a sister to four brothers, and a colleague of nearly 70 men, I’m terrified by the Kavanaugh hearing. Will this set the precedent that any man’s life can be ruined by mere allegations?

Barack Obama was a man of integrity
In response to “Kavanaugh hearings show: The left is out to vilify men” (Oct. 2 Opinion):
It appears that there is heinous hatred on both sides. Have you forgotten the vitriol and hate speak that our current president spewed while campaigning?
I dare say former President Barack Obama was truly a man of integrity and virtue whose only fault to some was not being born a white man.

We can’t fix anything with anger
In response to “Kavanaugh hearings show: The left is out to vilify men” (Oct. 2 Opinion):
I think now in this political climate is a good time to start asking ourselves if we are part of the problem or part of the solution.
As a registered Democrat and woman, I can assure you I am not raging against men these days and do not look upon the Kavanaugh hearings with great joy or satisfaction. If you took a little time to reflect, you may realize rather quickly that you are not part of the solution.

Well-behaved men need not be scared
Trump has stated that Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination has created a “very scary time” for young men in the U.S. because one accusation could ruin a “perfect” life. Many of us men, who may have not lived an absolutely “perfect” life, sleep very well at night and are not scared at all.
Why? Many of us men understand that “no” does not mean “until drunk,” until “separated from the crowd,” or until the tainted drink takes effect. Everyone knows what behavior crosses the sexual assault line and if there is “any doubt,” there should be “no doubt.”
If there is no doubt, there should be no question concerning what activity is acceptable. Fear of consequences from unlawful activities causes sleepless nights, not fear of accusations.

Everyone has been dumb, even liberals
Is Brett Kavanaugh’s adult reputation and character so clean and pristine, that we (Democrats) had to go all the way back to his high school and college days (when his brain was not fully developed, which happens at 25 years old) to try and find something against this nominee to keep him from being selected as a justice?
I don’t think he raped anyone, even Ms. Ford, because it seemed like “horse-play” with her.
By her own admission, she was not raped. How many of our Democratic senators have never been drunk or did something during high school or college, of which they would now be ashamed? Shame on us!

African Americans have progressed
In response to “What Panthers’ Eric Reid said Monday ensures this: All eyes will be on him Sunday” (Oct. 1):
Reading Eric Reid’s comments about African Americans in U.S. history, I feel sad that his teachers, readings and reflections have left him with so many misperceptions about our nation’s past.
Instead of “400 years of systemic oppression,” more and more blacks have experienced progress toward equality almost every generation since 1776. May the progress continue unhindered!
As a Panthers fan, I hope that Reid excels on the playing field. I also applaud his intention to provide useful service within the community.
