In response to “High court backs ACA” (June 26):
GOP, show us your health care plan
I can’t believe Republicans are insisting they will continue their efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act. They do so even though they have nothing to put forth to the American people as an alternative.
I was always taught that rejection of an idea calls for a better, or at least another, idea.
GOP: Show us what you have in mind as a replacement for the ACA, or perhaps sit down and be quiet.

As health care costs rise under ACA, more will come to dislike it
As health care costs rise under ACA, more will come to dislike it
Mr. President, I’m still waiting for my $2,500 reduction in health care insurance premiums you promised the average American.
I guess other promises, like I can keep my doctor and my insurance plan, were just a mistake as well.
No one knows how much Obamacare is going to cost, but we will start to get a good idea by the end of this year.
Most Americans dislike it, and those numbers will only grow.
Some like it, but hey, I’d like auto insurance if someone else made my payments for me.

GOP challenges to ACA waste country’s financial resources
Exactly what does it cost us to bring a vote (times 50) and challenge to the Supreme Court (times 2) in a losing battle?
Would like to have that money for education.
To paraphrase an old cliché: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is a sign of insanity.
That’s now covered by the ACA. Go get some help. You’re entitled by law!

I’m disappointed by all sides on affordable health care issue
The U.S. Supreme Court did probably the only thing they could on Obamacare based on the weak challenge presented.
Universal care may be a good idea, but this law was ill conceived, badly written and rammed through Congress.
The president knowingly lied to the American public about its cost to middle Americans in terms of dollars and lost benefits.
The Republicans, for their part, had more than two years to draft and present a viable alternative, but they did not.
I say, a pox on all their houses.

In response to “If Nashville is ‘Music City,’ Charlotte is...” (June 26):
Brand Charlotte? Let’s not spend money pigeonholing city
World-class cities are not branded by a pigeon-holed lexicon that tends to restrict and confine the locality in the perception of visitors and residents alike. Think Paris, London, New York, etc.
The fact that Charlotte cannot be accurately described and marketed by a banal activity, phrase, or slogan speaks to the multitudes of assets and diversity of the Queen City.
What is needed is more intelligence on behalf of those trying to market our area and a greater emphasis on using funds to mediate our weaknesses, instead of paying for vacations disguised as pertinent research.

The GOP, Karl Rove have long stoked fires of racial tension
Thanks to Kevin Siers for pointing out the hypocrisy of the GOP’s enthusiasm for removing the Confederate flag while showing such hostility towards addressing the consequences of our racist past. (Kevin Siers’ June 25 cartoon)
Karl Rove is criticizing President Obama for being purposely polarizing in the wake of the Charleston shootings. This from the man who orchestrated a smear campaign in South Carolina in 2000 in which thousands of fliers were distributed claiming John McCain had fathered a black child.
The likes of Rove have stoked the fires of racial division non-stop since 2000. These people truly deserve our scorn.

In response to “End all specialty plates, offensive or not” (June 25 Forum):
Specialty plates are valued forms of self-expression
Forum writer Alan Dockery’s suggestion to end all specialty plates does not go far enough.
Let’s end all forms of self-expression. Make everyone drive a white Prius, live in a state-designed house, and wear khakis and light blue shirts.
Oh, by the way, Mr. Dockery’s beard will have no place in this new vanilla society.
