Stop letting Obama rule by decree
In response to “N.C. Republicans criticize Obama’s gun-control measures” (Jan. 7):
This country is supposedly governed by duly elected representatives of the people.
So why have we allowed President Obama to trample on the Constitution and rule by decree?
When a president rules by decree the will and voice of the people is ignored and we become voiceless.
Liberals and the liberal media will be held accountable for the demise of this once-proud and democratic government!
My question: “Where are the voices of the people?”

Obama gun control measures reasonable
Someone please explain to me why any sane human being would be opposed to background checks and licenses to sell a deadly weapon?
What are they trying to hide?
None of these measures prevent a responsible adult from acquiring a gun.
So what’s the problem?

I don’t trust Obama on 2nd Amendment
President Obama previously stated:
“If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan.”
Not true.
“If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.”
Not true.
Do you actually think we will believe him when he states: “I believe in the Second Amendment, there written on paper, that guarantees the right to bear arms”?
I, for one, do not believe him, and I’m sure many other citizens feel the same way.

‘Ag-gag’ law driven by legislative greed
In response to “N.C.’s ‘ag-gag’ law protects wrongdoing” (Jan. 7 Opinion):
So now workers and caregivers can abuse animals, the elderly, and children in North Carolina without the fear of being exposed to the public.
No big surprise here. Just another example of legislators bowing down to their corporate lobbyist overlords.
They’re obviously more driven by greed and power than by concern for the well-being of those they were elected to represent.
There is simply no other explanation.

N.C. legislators must act on solar credits
Last month in Paris, 195 nations unanimously agreed CO2 emissions cause global warming and immediate steps to reduce emissions are necessary.
In a related statement on its website ExxonMobil echoed the same sentiment and even encouraged a revenue neutral carbon tax.
When 195 nations and the world’s most powerful energy company reach the same conclusions on CO2, it’s time to act.
Shouldn’t our legislators pass third-party sales and extend solar tax credits to safeguard our welfare?

City Council should vote ‘no’ on toll lanes
In response to “Vote signals City Council support for toll lanes” (Jan. 5) and related articles:
Surely the majority of Charlotte City Council members see through the thinly veiled strategy of the N.C. legislature to cut taxes for the rich at the expense of a tax plan that adequately funds the basic education, health, public safety, and transportation needs of the general populace.
If the Council decides to instruct its representative to the CRTPO to vote in favor of the toll lanes project, it will be kowtowing to the legislature’s plan to evade its fundamental obligations to the citizens of our state.
Charlotte should vote a resounding “NO” on the toll lane project.

Preschool should be more empathetic
In response to “Calvary sued after 2 children expelled from day care center” (Jan. 6):
The writer has a child with Type 1 diabetes.
It is so sad to think that teachers and administrators did not show empathy to these children and families who did nothing to deserve these diseases, and who have to fight every day to survive!
The teacher who threatened to quit because she was scared should imagine how scared that child is.
His parents have to give him multiple shots a day.
Imagine the parents not sleeping at night, worried about a low blood sugar that could kill him.
I pray this lawsuit brings light and education to issues surrounding Type 1 diabetes and also abdominal migraines.
The children just want to be treated like everyone else!
