All I see in Trump’s plan is intolerance
In response to “I see value in Trump’s immigration plan” (Jan. 15 Forum):
I see “value” in Donald Trump’s immigration plan as well. I see a plan that values bigotry, racism and ignorance.
These are all values most Americans find abhorrent.
I see and hear Muslims and non-Muslims denounce these senseless killings every day.
Maybe the glasses the Forum writer is looking through are too clouded with intolerance to notice.

Trump’s plan may have some merit
I have been trying my best not to climb aboard this wagon as I don’t appreciate some of Donald Trump’s hyperbole.
However, his idea of temporarily banning Muslims until you can figure out the good guys from the bad ones keeps us far safer than the responses by the other Republican candidates or the Democrats.
You can’t allow continued migration while sorting this out – just look at the results of that policy in France, Germany and California.
Trump is apparently the only one non-PC enough to point this out.
His stance needs refinement, but it is a far better place to start examining the problem from than business as usual – which even the FBI director says does not work.

Double standard on Muslims must end
How can one reader attempt to justify banning Muslims from America, even if only for a time, due to the actions of a few?
I have never seen these people ask if Christians ever apologized for slavery, the Trail of Tears, Timothy McVeigh, child molestation, or any other horrible act committed by a Christian.
If your “blame them all” logic is good enough when you are talking about Muslims, it should be good enough for others to use when the finger is being pointed at you.
You do not get to play by a different set of rules than the rest of us.

Expect payback come Election Day
In response to “A tolls gambit backfires on the governor” (Jan. 13 Opinion) and related articles:
The Charlotte City Council voted to support the I-77 toll lane project, thereby double-crossing residents and businesses impacted by this unwanted project.
The governor and those who orchestrated this will pay a heavy price come Election Day.
I’m sick of the NCDOT, Gov. Pat McCrory, and the City Council members, all of whom turned their backs on hard-working folks who will have to put up with this totally bad plan.

Unenforced gun laws won’t save lives
In response to “Accidental shooting: Boy, 3, kills self with dad’s gun” (Jan. 14):
As sad as the tragic loss of a child may be, North Carolina is one of 14 states with laws imposing criminal liability when a firearm is stored in such a manner where a child could or does gain access to it.
Should there be any question in the mind of the Robeson County district attorney whether charges are warranted?
Of the 692 deaths of children 11 or younger reported in 2015, how many adults were prosecuted for allowing children access to a firearm?
Unenforced gun laws will not save lives.

Congress enabling Obama on gun laws
In response to “Guns ‘We can’t accept this carnage in our communities’ ” (Jan. 6):
With his executive orders earlier this month related to gun control, President Barack Obama is compromising our constitutional form of government.
On top of that, our congressional leaders are acting as his enablers and they are letting him get away with it.
No one in Congress has offered a credible challenge to the usurpation of power by Obama.
My Constitutional Law professors are turning in their graves.

Another NASCAR Hall of Fame folly
Another year goes by without one of the greatest car builders and mechanics in NASCAR history being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Henry “Smokey” Yunick race cars won 57 races and two championships.
He was one of the best innovators the sport has ever seen. He could stretch the rule book more than anyone else in the history of NASCAR.
The voters need to put politics aside and give Mr. Yunick the respect he deserves with a spot in the Hall of Fame.
