Ben Carson is everything I want in a president, says letter writer
I never advocated for black superintendent
In response to “Minority CMS leader no guarantee” (Jan. 22 Forum):
I am always happy to be in the conversational stream about the children of color in CMS and their betterment.
However, let’s be clear, I have never advocated for a white or black superintendent. Nor a female or male.
I have been very consistent in asking that a process be put in place and executed to conduct a superintendent search.

Disappointed by Bruton’s nomination
Disappointed by Bruton’s nomination
In response to “NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee: Bruton Smith” (Jan. 22):
What a sad day for NASCAR when all they have for a Hall of Fame inductee is someone who has bullied his way in the sport.
If he does not like where he will be placed in the hall, he may move Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Our leaders aren’t stupid, just misguided
Our leaders aren’t stupid, just misguided
In response to Kevin Siers’ Trump/Palin cartoon (Jan. 21 Opinion):
Kevin Siers beautifully presented Donald Trump’s “We are led by very, very stupid people.”
I agree with Trump, but perhaps a nicer approach would be for him to say that those in Washington are not stupid, but went there for the wrong reasons – prestige, money, greed, connections, etc.
The right reason would be because our politicians are angry at what they see. They should step up to the plate, be leaders and help fix America’s problems.
This is what they said they were going to do.

Carson has what it takes to lead country
We need to elect a man as president who has moral integrity, doesn’t flip-flop, has a strong sense of what can and must be done to bring our nation back to its former exceptional ranking in the world, and who has the backbone to stand up to our enemies, foreign and domestic.
Dr. Ben Carson best fits this description.
He is a soft-spoken man, but highly educated, articulate, considers all possible options before making decisions, and has a backbone of steel.
He won’t back down. He will be a man of honor, one our country can look up to and be proud to have as president.

Altering Constitution shouldn’t be easy
In response to “The eight amendments the United States needs” (Jan. 20 Opinion):
The brilliance of our founding fathers and their deep understanding of the lessons of history helped create the greatest society the world has ever seen.
Columnist Jonathan Bernstein surely knows how intentionally difficult the founders made it to amend our Constitution. Thank goodness they did.
Part of their great foresight was to create a nation in which the rule of law provides orderly means to improve the system when two-thirds of both houses of Congress and three-fourths of the states concur. “E pluribus unum,” indeed!

Cruz wrong about Iran agreement
In response to “Cruz rips president on national security, Trump on ‘values’ ” (Jan. 17):
Once again, fear monger Ted Cruz criticizes President Obama’s Iranian nuclear agreement as “the most colossal foreign policy mistake of modern times...,” even in the face of proven action by the Iranian government to do what they agreed – limit their nuclear activities.
Just where was Sen. Cruz when the actual “most colossal foreign policy mistake” was made – the invasion of Iraq?
It was based on WMD lies and cost the lives of so many of our precious young troops.
It also cost us over $2 trillion and gave rise to the ISIS terrorist group.

You brought joy to 11,300 children
This past Christmas, more than 11,300 children received gifts and help from The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte’s Christmas programs through the generosity of our community.
We want to say thank you to the Charlotte community.
There are many individuals, churches, organizations and corporations, too many to name, who have made a tremendous impact this year.
Without your help, none of this would be possible.
