Anger you see at RNC is real, justified
Many reasons for Republicans’ anger
In response to “How did party of Lincoln slip so low” (July 21 Forum):
Could it be that the millions who voted for Donald Trump in primaries and scream at the GOP convention are the angry former silent majority who want to take their country back from the abyss, while we still have a Republic?
Maybe they are angry about the invasion of refugees. Maybe the screamers do not like to read about cops being murdered or see thousands Black Lives Matter anarchists blocking our highways and streets.
Maybe they are disappointed in our president who now openly expresses support for law enforcement – seven years too late.

A letter as insensitive as Hillary Clinton
In response to “Blame for Benghazi starts with GOP” (July 20 Forum):
Regardless of who is to blame for the origin of the Iraq and Libya debacle, for Forum writer Marc Silverstein to state that the emotions shown at the Republican National Convention by a mother who lost her son were “crocodile tears” is beyond incredulous.
I don’t know what is more insensitive: his comments or the failure by Hillary Clinton to answer the desperate cries for help in Benghazi when the need arose.

I can’t let Clinton off the hook on Benghazi
I can’t let Clinton off the hook on Benghazi
I can agree with Marc Silverstein that Dick Cheney was largely responsible for getting us involved in a war that we should not have been in. Other than that, I have a hard time following his logic.
If I remember correctly 9/11 occurred before the Iraq debacle and showed that Radical Islam was already in full bloom.
Bill Clinton did little to help that situation. Beyond that, I have yet to hear anyone make a rational argument that as the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was not derelict in her duty and obligation to our people in the Benghazi embassy.

No doubt about it, that was plagiarism
No matter your political affiliation or the Trump campaign’s spin, Melania Trump’s speech was an egregious example of intellectual theft, for that is what plagiarism is.
Ministers, college presidents, teachers and others have lost their jobs or credibility for using the work of others and not attributing it.
From elementary through graduate school students are taught to use their own thoughts and word, or give credit if they use someone else’s work.
As a retired high school and college level educator, I feel strongly about plagiarism and intellectual theft.

Tell me your fix for climate change
Why is neither presidential candidate talking about climate change?
It’s the issue that makes all other issues worse. The first major health impact of climate change is the rise in rates of mortality and diseases caused by extreme weather events.
A simple revenue-neutral carbon fee – endorsed by Shell Oil and BP – creates jobs and prevents deaths.
If we return 100 percent of the fee to U.S. households, energy price increases disappear.
Can we at least talk about it before the frog in the boiling caldron dies?

Off on streetcar cost? Here we go again!
Off on streetcar cost? Here we go again!
In response to Streetcars “Bids for new phase millions over budget” (July 21):
This is a continual problem with our city and county government. They underestimate costs and over-estimate revenue.
The city and county boards need to demand accurate estimates before they approve projects.
I hope these errors are incompetence, rather than willful deceit!

NBA game another monument to waste
In response to “Let’s join forces for All-Star Game” (July 19 Forum):
Let’s not do anything to keep the All-Star Game here! Let’s not allow ourselves to be suckered again into allowing the city to misuse our hard-earned tax money to subsidize a bunch of spoiled, pampered multimillionaires.
We do not need to bolster the egos of the city’s politicos with their demands for subsidies or their monuments to waste like the Trolley Folly, NASCAR Hall of Shame, and Frightwater Amoeba Farm.
