Bank employees who donated to Clinton make me laugh

Clinton has plans for those big banks

In response to “Charlotte workers put money behind Clinton” (Aug. 18):

Those bank employees who gave money to Hillary Clinton make me laugh. They are either deaf or uninformed.

Clinton has been campaigning for the past year to shut down or break up big banks like Bank of America.

This reminds me of a quote attributed to a Russian Communist. I’ll paraphrase: These capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them.

Make access to voting easier, not harder

The effort by N.C. Republicans to suppress voter turnout is disgraceful.

Access to the polls for all eligible citizens should be made easier, not more difficult.

Claims that potential for voter fraud increases with early voting have been proven baseless.

If one eligible voter is prevented from exercising his/her right to cast a ballot due to these partisan Republican efforts, then our democracy suffers.

The “party line” changes promoted by Republicans are unconstitutional, and just plain wrong.

Trump poll numbers don’t worry me

Don’t over-rely on presidential preference polls.

Jesse Helms never lost an election, but it was not always fashionable in “polite society” to say you were a Helms supporter.

Pollsters rely on the responses they receive being truthful, and there are no consequences to those who prevaricate.

In like fashion, Donald Trump is not well-received based on comments made by elitists.

The polls may underestimate how voters view him. We shall see.

Aetna just exercising free enterprise

In response to “What Aetna forgot to say about Obamacare” (Aug. 18 Observer Editorial):

When a company has a product line that is failing, it takes drastic measures.

Over the years, the Observer/McClatchy has eliminated jobs and reduced the size of its newspaper. Yet, you criticize Aetna when they drop a product line that has lost $430 million in two years.

It’s called free enterprise.

Obama should be visiting flood zone

In response to “Obama unlikely to halt vacation to visit flood zone” (Aug. 19):

I can’t for the life of me see how President Obama can stay on his vacation rather than go to Louisiana and visit with the emergency responders and many people who have lost their homes and property.

Many people have died in this disaster and it makes me feel that he does not give a hoot.

I had very little respect for him. I do not have any now. Very pathetic.

CATS’ train station budget unrealistic

In response to “CATS unsure if it will build temporary Amtrak station” (Aug. 14):

Again, I see that CATS has no idea how to budget.

Originally the Feds gave Charlotte $25 million to move the train station closer to uptown, but CATS thinks it will cost $70 million to do the project.

Get your priorities straight and give us a truthful budget.

Here’s why I’m not watching Olympics

In response to “Charlotte dead last in viewing Olympics” (Aug. 19):

Folks are not watching the Olympics because the coverage is loonng and booorring.

It’s endless hours of badminton, horse hockey, dodgeball, synchronized pillow fighting, and NBA guys beating the team from Schnotzelvakia (formerly the National Republic of Lower Slobovia) 187-14.

Not exactly must-see TV.

Your pet may hinder my service dog

As a disabled veteran with a service dog I cannot agree more with Forum writers who complained about pets in businesses.

It is very unsettling to enter an establishment with my service dog and encounter a pet.

I have no way of knowing how that animal will react to us. Will it bark, snarl, even try to attack?

My dog and I trained for over a year and a half so we could enter anywhere with assurance of calm and polite behavior, being as unobtrusive as possible while still doing the job she was trained for.

I know you love your pets, but please leave them at home.
