Be angered by police killings, not by Kaepernick’s response
Be appalled by killings, not by QB
In response to “Kaepernick a disgrace for sitting” (Aug. 30 Forum):
Forum writer Kenneth Randall is “shocked at the number of journalists that have defended Colin Kaepernick’s disgraceful behavior” and that the NFL just dismissed it.
Do any of these angry patriots register shock when fellow unarmed Americans – many of them minorities, or disabled, or minors, guilty of nothing more than causing an officer to fear for his life – are killed?
Why are their deaths not shocking? Why are the committed, loyal patriots not protesting for their fallen fellow Americans?

49ers QB should visit Arlington, Gettysburg
49ers QB should visit Arlington, Gettysburg
In response to “Quarterback takes a ‘stand’ for liberty” (Aug. 31 Observer Editorial) and related articles:
Colin Kaepernick might want to spend some of that $11.9 million salary visiting Arlington National Cemetery.
While he’s back East, he might even stop by the Gettysburg Battlefield.
If he doesn’t want to spend any “hard-earned” football money, he might search out the famous WWI poem “In Flanders Fields” and read, and reread, it.
The NFL should tell players who don’t want to stand or hold their hand over their hearts during the national anthem that they can wait it out in the tunnel or locker room.

Kaepernick chose wrong way to protest
I think most people are missing a very important point. Colin Kaepernick has every right to sit or stand whenever he wants, but when he does it in the uniform of the San Francisco team, he also represents the team.
I would think the team would have a policy addressing the actions of players in uniform and that not paying respect to the flag would be prohibited, as it could impact the team’s finances.
In any event, he chose the wrong way to protest.

Clinton’s NAFTA jabs fall flat with me
Hillary Clinton has flip-flopped on NAFTA in recent years.
She criticizes Donald Trump for manufacturing suits in Mexico, while she used to praise NAFTA.
NAFTA is all about Mexican companies selling their suits in the United States so that American companies can sell their products in Mexico.

HB2 no guarantee against predators
Will someone please explain to me how HB2 will deny predators access to women’s facilities?
Predators could access them previously and they can access them now under HB2.
Being a predator was, is, and will be illegal regardless of HB2.

Lack of Clinton news conferences an issue
Will the Observer publish a comprehensive list of all presidential candidates who have held no press conferences up to this late point in an election cycle?
It’s just a one-name list. Who could it be?
Some voters are interested in answers to questions not addressed in speeches, at rallies, or asked during her appearances on late-night TV entertainment shows.

Trump immigration plan will backfire
When Donald Trump starts to expel illegal immigrants, employers in California and other states will be short of labor.
Few if any Americans will want to do the work of the illegal immigrants.
The price of strawberries will go up, as well as all other agricultural products.
In short, the employers will be unable to replace the illegal immigrants.

Two small churches offer big inspiration
In response to “Neighboring black and white churches start healing divide” (Aug. 29):
This article should appear on the front page of every city across America.
Two churches, one black and one white, separated only by a small park, have taken a huge first step.
I commend the pastors of these churches for leading their members to join together and have numerous and ongoing difficult conversations.
Very definitely, these two small Baptist churches in Macon, Ga., clearly see the need for a new beginning – as should we all.
