Something extraordinary is taking shape in Lexington, North Carolina: the next era of American rail manufacturing. With the first sparks of production already flying, the story of Siemens Mobility in Lexington is just beginning.

This new $220 million 200-acre advanced train manufacturing facility isn’t just a milestone in our four-decade journey, it’s a heartfelt commitment to the people of North Carolina. It’s a promise to build the next era of American rail with the hands, ingenuity, and pride of those who call this place home – and those who’ve come here to help shape its future.

We chose Lexington because it reflects everything we believe in: community, craftsmanship, and a forward-looking spirit. Nestled in the Piedmont Triad, Lexington offers not only strategic access to transportation networks but also a workforce rooted in resilience and excellence. Already, more than 300 employees have joined our team, and by 2028, we’ll be creating 500 new jobs – making Siemens Mobility one of the city’s largest employers.

Announced in March 2023, the Lexington facility represents Siemens Mobility’s largest U.S. manufacturing expansion in recent years. Supported by a Job Development Investment Grant from the state of North Carolina, the site is projected to contribute $1.6 billion to the state’s economy over 12 years. This investment is more than financial, it’s foundational. It transforms a former greenfield into a hub for rail manufacturing and services, positioning North Carolina as a leader in transportation and industrial innovation.

More than bricks and steel, the facility is a focus of innovation and technology supported by foundational operations management. With a goal to be one of the most advanced rail manufacturing sites in the rail industry, it features state-of-the-art automation and cutting-edge digital technologies including AI, robotics, and real-time analytics.

From the design and engineering of passenger coaches to the precision of locomotive overhauls, digital twin technology enables predictive maintenance and performance optimization, ensuring safer and more efficient travel. Smart manufacturing tools empower employees to work more effectively, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and positioning North Carolina at the forefront of the future of rail.

Lexington’s workforce embodies the strength and skill of the Piedmont Triad region, with hundreds of team members already on board and 200 additional positions set to be filled in the coming years. Roles available at the Lexington facility range from production welders and assembly technicians to certified welding inspectors, commissioning test operators, quality technicians, overhaul technicians, painters, straighteners, and transportation equipment operators.

Siemens Mobility is also partnering with local institutions like Davidson-Davie Community College to support job fairs and workforce development. As hiring continues, we’re committed to fostering a workplace culture built on innovation and opportunity. The coaches produced here will begin rolling out later this year, transforming how Americans travel.

At Siemens Mobility in Lexington, we’re not just building trains, we’re building the next era of American rail. With every coach that rolls off the line, we’re making economic impact, powering progress, and transforming the everyday.
