Mexican National Team returning to Charlotte on 2020 US tour

The Mexican national soccer team will be starting its 2020 U.S. tour at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on March 26, the Federation of Mexican Fútbol announced on Monday.

From Charlotte, the team will travel to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas the following Sunday. The Mexican team is expected to bring their best players since the games will be played during the March FIFA dates.

While opponents and kickoff times have yet to be announced for the tour, tickets will go on sale Dec. 9. Ticket sales start at 10 a.m. in the local time for North Carolina and Texas.

The Mexican national team last played in the Queen City in June, when they defeated Martinique in a first round Gold Cup match.

The game is another opportunity for Charlotte to demonstrate its interest in soccer. Since Major League Soccer announced its planned expansion to 30 teams, Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper has pushed Charlotte as a potential home for an MLS team.

Tepper and Panthers president Tom Glick have argued that Bank of American Stadium is a great soccer venue and that a Charlotte MLS team would draw tens of thousands of people, the Charlotte Observer has previously reported.
