Charlotte’s Wells Fargo Championship is one of several PGA Tour events that have been canceled due to concerns about the coronavirus, the tour announced Tuesday.

The Wells Fargo tournament was scheduled for April 30-May 3 at Quail Hollow Club.

The tournament released a statement: “Our focus now will be on how we use this moment in time to inspire our community and make sure we use the strength of the Wells Fargo Championship to do good. The tournament staff will be communicating with our title sponsor Wells Fargo, as well as our corporate partners and volunteers, regarding our role in continuing to make a positive impact on this region.

“As a Charlotte professional sporting event, our top priority is always the health and safety of our community-at-large as well as the fans, volunteers, players and sponsors.”

The Masters has already been postponed indefinitely, and the tour announced that the PGA Championship, scheduled for two weeks after the Charlotte tournament, has also been postponed.

All tournaments leading up to the Byron Nelson Classic, which is scheduled the week after the Wells Fargo Championship, have been canceled. They include this week’s Valspar Championship, the Valero Texas Open, the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head Island, S.C., and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Last week’s Players Championship was canceled.

Tournaments on other tours over the next four weeks, including the PGA Tour Champions, have been either postponed or canceled.
