Charlotte FC unveiled its primary Adidas uniforms, or “kits” in soccer terms, on Thursday for the club’s inaugural Major League Soccer seasons in 2022 and ‘23.

The blue jerseys will feature white sleeves and white lettering spelling out the name of the team’s lead sponsor, Ally, on the front of the jerseys with secondary sponsor, Centene Corporation, featured on the sleeves in black lettering. Charlotte FC’s crest — a blue circle inside a black circle with a white crown in the interior — is also featured on the upper chest.

Additionally, a detail on the lower front of the jersey features a state outline image of North and South Carolina, which the club said was a nod to representing the entire Carolina region.

“The colors are representative of our core color palette,” Charlotte FC president Nick Kelly said. “...We want to be a team for the Carolinas. To be that representative in our first uniform was really important.”

Charlotte FC revealed the new uniforms as its primary kits, meaning those are expected to be worn more frequently than the secondary kits that will be released early next year. The primary uniforms also include white Adidas shorts, with the players’ numbers on the front, paired with blue socks and black cleats.

The uniforms were revealed live to a group of season ticket members Thursday evening at an experiential event at Camp North End in Charlotte. Charlotte FC front office members, sponsors, five players (Jordy Alcívar, Christian Fuchs, Adam Armour, Brandt Bronico and Guzmán Corujo) and Charlotte FC coaches were present for the unveiling.

“Obviously it’s unique because it’s the first jersey of the newly formed team,” Fuchs, a Charlotte FC defender and former Leicester City player, said. “For me, it’s one out of many that I’ve worn so far in the 17 years that I’ve been a professional (player), but it still feels very unique, very special.”

Charlotte FC’s roster so far features nine players, including Wednesday’s latest reported signing, 19-year-old Brazilian forward Vinicius Mello. The team is expected to add more players this weekend after the MLS Cup final in Portland on Saturday. The half-day trade window will open Sunday, allowing the club to complete trades or sign free agents during the offseason.

Charlotte FC will also participate in an expansion draft on Tuesday, Dec. 14, that will allow it to add five players to its growing roster from other teams’ unprotected players lists. A live draft show from Bank of America Stadium announcing the picks will air at 7 p.m. on local stations WSOC-TV, WAXN and Telemundo Charlotte.

The team’s inaugural home match, in which it’s aiming to host a crowd of more than 74,000 fans at Bank of America Stadium to break a league record, will be played against the LA Galaxy on Mar. 5. Charlotte FC’s first game of the season will be played in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 26 against Eastern Conference competitor D.C. United.
