Here are the players Charlotte FC is able to pick in the MLS expansion draft
Major League Soccer on Monday released a list of players that Charlotte FC will be able to select during Tuesday’s expansion draft in preparation for the club’s inaugural season in 2022.
Charlotte is able to select up to five players during the draft and may not select more than one player from any single team of those participating. Five teams — the San Jose Earthquakes, New York Red Bulls, Nashville SC, LA Galaxy and Orlando City SC — are exempt from the draft since they had players selected by Austin FC during last year’s expansion draft.
Charlotte FC is the only expansion team joining the league in 2022, and thus the only team making selections in this year’s draft. The club is coached by Miguel Ángel Ramírez and has signed 11 players so far, including Monday’s most recent roster addition, 19-year-old Brazilian center forward Vinicius Mello.
Charlotte will have three minutes for each selection, which will be announced live at 7 p.m. on WSOC-TV and WAXN in English and Telemundo Charlotte in Spanish.
The club is also able to pick a player then trade for General Allocation Money (GAM) as another roster-building mechanism. Each of the 22 clubs eligible to have a player selected by Charlotte was able to protect 12 players on its Senior, Supplemental and Reserve rosters.
