Eloy Jimenez to make rehab appearance with Charlotte Knights

The Charlotte Knights will be without one of their best hitters for the next few days, but will get a big name in his place.

Adam Haseley was called back up to the majors Sunday for his second stint with the Chicago White Sox.

Haseley, 26, was one of the team’s lineup stalwarts. The outfielder played in 51 games for Charlotte and batted .280 with a .826 OPS. He started for Chicago on Sunday and went 1-4 with three strikeouts in the White Sox’s 4-3 loss to the Houston Astros.

Pitcher Matt Foster was placed on the bereavement list for Chicago in a corresponding move; he will miss a minimum of three games and a maximum of seven games — giving a possible estimate for the length of Haseley’s major-league stay.

Likely to be inserted into the Knights’ lineup for Haseley will be White Sox star outfielder Eloy Jimenez, who started his second rehab assignment with the Knights on Tuesday.

Jimenez has appeared in just 11 major league games this season, batting .222 with one home run. He tore his hamstring tendon on April 23 and has been on the White Sox injured list since.

He started his first rehab assignment with Charlotte on May 28 but left the game with leg soreness and the rehab assignment was paused soon after. Tuesday will be Jimenez’s first game since June 7.

In his first six-game stint with the Knights, Jimenez batted .235 in six games.

The Knights have now had 11 players to go from Charlotte to Chicago this season. One of those players, Seby Zavala, has had early success in his White Sox tenure.

Since he was called up for the injured Yasmani Grandal, Zavala is batting .313 with one home run and four RBIs.

Charlotte will also be without Tim Anderson, who went back to Chicago after finishing his rehab assignment for a strained right groin.

He finished his Knights stay 5 for 15 at the plate with no extra-base hits and one RBI. In his first game back with the White Sox, he went 2 for 5 and scored a run.

KNIGHTS-RED SOX SERIES AT A GLANCE

This six-game series, which started Tuesday, pits two teams that lost four of their last six games entering the matchup in Worcester.

The Knights’ 2-4 stretch came against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp while Worcester’s came against the Toledo Mud Hens. The Red Sox (32-34) won the first and last games of the series but were walloped by a combined 24-11 score in the middle four matchups.

Red Sox Player to Watch

SP - Connor Seabold

Seabold has started 10 games for Worcester and has a 1.95 ERA. The 26-year-old has struck out 49 batters in 50 2/3 innings pitched and has walked just 14 batters.

Knights Players to Watch

SS - Laz Rivera

Rivera went 4 for 12 in the Jumbo Shrimp series last week, bringing his season average to .214. His on-base percentage is much higher at .314 and is driving his .741 OPS, which ranks No. 8 on the team among players who’ve played more than 10 games.

RP - Zack Muckenhirn

Muckenhirn, 27, is one of the few reliable relief pitchers the Knights have. In 19 appearances, he has a 1.90 ERA and has earned two saves in three opportunities.

His last appearance came on June 17, when he gave up one earned run in two innings against the Jumbo Shrimp.
