The aftermath of David Tepper’s cup toss: How will incident impact Panthers in 2024?

The Carolina Panthers have had their fair share of embarrassments this season.

The organization fired first-year head coach Frank Reich after just 11 games after trading up to select rookie quarterback Bryce Young in th 2023 NFL Draft. They’ve already clinched last place in the NFL with one game to go and, as a result, will hand the No. 1 overall draft pick to the Chicago Bears in April. Oh, and the team’s owner, David Tepper, was caught on camera hurling the contents of a cup toward the crowd at EverBank Stadium this past weekend.

On the latest episode of the Processing Blue podcast, Panthers beat writer Mike Kaye and sports columnist Scott Fowler discuss the fallout from Tepper’s latest (and most public) miscue. The NFL fined Tepper $300,000 on Tuesday, and while that sum doesn’t seem like a lot for billionaire, the widespread public shaming of the act that led to the punishment might be even more painful for the owner and the franchise.

The Observer’s sports journalists discuss how the action could lead to a tougher coaching search for the Panthers. The duo also dive into the final week of the season regarding the protection of Young.

Should the rookie quarterback continue to play as the sacks mount and the season has fallen off course to the point of epic failure?
