Who will play at 2024 Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte? At least 4 past champs

Wyndham Clark announced Monday that he will defend his title at the Wells Fargo Championship.

And he won’t be the only past champion in the field.

The 2024 Wells Fargo Championship, which returns to Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte for the 19th time as one of eight “Signature Events” on the PGA Tour schedule, typically features 70-80 of pro golf’s top players. And the list of early commitments to the May 6-12 event includes a bunch of familiar, triumphant names.

Among them are Clark, the 2023 champion, as well as Lucas Glover (2011), Rickie Fowler (2012) and Brian Harman (2017). Clark and Harman each won two of golf’s four major championships in 2023. Clark won the U.S. Open; Harmon won the British Open.

Clark’s win a year ago launched him from relative obscurity in a show of dominance that had him finish -19 and win by four strokes over Xander Schauffele. Clark’s 72-hole score of 265 was the lowest in the tournament’s history, edging Rory McIlroy’s 267 in 2015.

It was Clark’s first win on the circuit. He joined McIlroy, Fowler, Max Homa, Anthony Kim and Derek Ernst as guys who earned their first tour victories at Quail Hollow Club.

The Wells Fargo Championship typically draws in the tour’s biggest stars. In 2023, the field included McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Max Homa, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Tom Kim.

The 2024 tournament’s entry list also includes Sahith Theegala and 2023 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Eric Cole.
